Basic Fact Games

We created instructions for games to help build basic fact knowledge. We would love you to try them out and give us some feedback.

Money Matters Personification

We used personification to describe some of the financial terms we learnt about during 'Money Matters'

Bank by Dev

He is very helpful to people, but one thing about him is that he can only help you for a certain amount of time and charges you for that help. People come maybe once a week or month to get help from him. He has bodyguards to protect him from people who want to steal from him.  He is quite shy and often deals with people online.

Spending by Kristy

Spending is a posh teenage girl, who is obsessed with the latest products and trends. She is very popular and has millions of friends in real life and on social media. Spending never worries about the future or how much money is wasted on her belongings. That is why some people say she is self centred. To her everything is a contest and she wants everything to go her way. She wears pretty pink clothes and wears big bows. Some people may say that she’s a hoarder as she hates getting rid of anything that’s in her walk in wardrobe. Spending accumulates many things such as every single Iphone, Ipod and heaps more.

Budget by Kaelem

Budget is a very boring person who worries too much. She has a British accent ,is quite skinny and isn’t very fashionable. She wears clothing passed down from other people in the family. Budget doesn’t go out to eat at restaurants very often. Budget isn’t very trendy and she even has a flip phone. Budget stays inside almost 24/7 because she thinks going out to parks and beaches is just a complete waste of time and money. She is quite frugal and most of the time just eats rotisserie foods from the supermarket which are under $10. Budget lives in a small bungalow hoarded with boxes from clearance sales.

Insurance by Sara

Insurance is paranoid. She’s afraid of everything, even her own reflection (She’s afraid it might come to life and send her mad). Insurance is kind and enjoys helping the worried. She’s rich but doesn’t touch her money because of certain “safety precautions” and “hazards”. Insurance is modest and lowly. She doesn’t think highly of herself. She wears old clothes and lives in a “safe”, hygienic and sanitary house with no stairs, sharp edges and dangerous things. She gets paid at a high price but is very generous for many obvious reasons relating to “death”. Insurance has sponge covered security cameras in case an axe-wielding maniac tried to break in. She lives everyday in fear of death, pickpockets, dogs and herself. Guess she didn’t hear the old saying “There’s nothing to fear apart from fear itself.”

Tax by Kalani

Tax, is a very evil man whose hobby is to steal money from innocent people on the street. His ‘going out’ outfit is a $1000 suit, ready polished shoes and 2 thick coats of ‘Extra Shine’ gel for the hair. Tax spends his days in his private 2-storey house, just owned by himself. He thinks it’s hilarious when people don’t notice when he strikes to steal their money. Luring random people on the street to pickpocket is one other activity tax finds humorous.

Savings by Samarah

Savings always worries about the future. So savings plans for what’s coming ahead. He is very sensible when it comes to money he would never go outside to eat, shop or do anything fun for his entertainment. He is frugal when it comes to shopping, he eats stale bread with potatoes everyday. Savings never takes a shower, brush his teeth or wears good quality clothes, his clothes are all from an op shop. Savings is a hoarder he has no fashion sense at all he would wear clothes that got handed down to him.

Scratch Art

We used scratching to produce these pieces of art. We used crayon to create a layer of colour before covering in black paint. We then used scratching tools to reveal the colour underneath.

Speed Dating

Today we had a go at some speed dating with a difference. Instead of trying to find love we were trying to find recommendations for new books to read. Each person got to visit different people and hear about their favourite book and their reasons for enjoying it. Then we swapped round and had time to tell others about our favourite book.

Market Day

Our Market Day finally arrived and was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who came along to support us.

Podcast #14

The Coming Storm

We described what it would to be like to be caught in the storm below. We were encouraged to use our senses and use descriptive language features such as similes, metaphors, personification and alliteration.

The Coming Storm by Sara

The enormous patchy,  worn grey clouds tumbled into the sky like a veil of evil being unravelled. The howling wind circled and slithered around me. I stared at the snaking shadows on the ground performing a puppet show. Shadows flickered and crept up the looming and fading pyramid- like mountains. The long winding road disappeared into   nothingness. Thunder blared in the sky like a cannon being fired as the almighty Zeus stomped across the heavens with cold fury. His fiery, shocking temper finally became uncontrollable. The ground shook as the god of lightning roared. He was furious and spat out his anger. His spit solidified with fury and turned into hail. Zeus’ bolt struck us from the heavens.
A sudden flash of lightning filled the sky. I ran and ran until I could run no more. The rain pounded on my head as I stood out there in the open, terror stricken and soaked. I shivered with fear and cold. My insides were frozen solid and my hands were numb. I cried out to the heavens expecting an answer but the terror was still there, so I curled up into a tight ball rocking back and forth thinking, “When will this end?”

Crime Scene in Room 3

WALT - Describe a setting

Imagine you and your parents have sat down to watch the news and this story comes on. Describe the events of the morning to them. What did you see, hear, feel? Remember to reveal it was all a maths lesson/prank.

“Room 3’s on the news Sara!” My dad's’ voice sailed into the kitchen, “PHGFhf” went the milk as it projected out of my nostrils and landed onto my trousers when I accidentally inhaled it. I dropped the cup and bowled over my brother as I whizzed into the the living room still hacking, coughing and wheezing from the “incident”. “ Where!? When!? WHY?! HOW?!” I burst out, “ See for yourself” replied my dad. I turned and gasped.

“After a short break we’ll hear about a peculiar crime scene that happened at Halsey Drive School, Lynfield see you at 6:00”, chirped the news reporter. There was an awkward silence then I screamed “Room 3’s on TV.” Just as the news came on again.“Welcome back to Story we’re going to have a closer investigation of the crime scene and a chat about other recent events”. “According to witnesses the victim and the fact that if it was murder or an accident is unknown, but it was very clear it was a teacher judging by the height and how he\she died. The chair was on its side when it had toppled over like the victim fell there are rumours the victim was Mr Bainbridge.”

My dad gasped and turned off the TV and asked “ What’s this about?” “ I thought for a while and said “ In the morning, when I entered the classroom everyone was gossiping and there was a toppled over chair with tape and cones around it. Everyone said Mr Bainbridge or one of the cleaners had an accident. But I was sceptical judging by the fact that there was an Ipad propped up on one of the cabinets and there was no blood. After the bell rang everyone was surprised Mr Bainbridge came back and we found out the whole crime scene was a prank for a project in maths. There was an awkward silence until my mum came in and shrieked “Sara! What happened to your pants?!” “We were discussing a crime scene”. I complained but mum just said “There will be an even bigger crime scene if you don’t clean them up!!” So I reluctantly trudged to my room. I guess you just can’t get away with some things.

Surrounded By Elephants

WALT - Use descriptive language features

We came face to face with the largest land animal on the planet, the African elephant. We described the events in the video as we experienced them. We were challenged to use at least 3 language features such as similes, metaphors, hyperbole, personification and alliteration.

Surrounded by Elephants by Ella

The severe sun was burning the back of my neck as I wandered around looking for wildlife. “Thump thump” I froze “Could it be…..” I turned around slowly and gasped, a herd of colossal mammals approached me curiously as I stood speechless. The elephant peered at me waving its wrinkled trunk around in my face as I stood there silently.

The herd of beasts looked just like its ancient ancestor, the mammoth. They walked towards me but they didn’t seem to be bothered as they started to rip out chunks of grass and devour it all. Their skin was hard and wrinkled like a leather case. Their menacing ivory tusks looked like a skewer stuck out from their face, I was petrified. While trumpeting with their trunks their ears flapped and waved like a kite wanting to fly free. The sky was a clear sapphire while the long emerald grass danced along in the wind. It looked like a beautiful paradise waiting to be explored and discovered.
