The Guardians of the Galaxy have been reading about the Chinese Zodiac Animal story. They collaborated on describing two animals from the story the rat and the dragon.
WALT - Describe Characters
A long time ago in China the Jade Emperor on his birthday decided to have a race to measure time. He told all the animals to line up on the riverbank with the first twelve across the river having a year named after them. The winner of the race was the rat.
The rat was a mean, sly, backstabbing beast. The rat lied to the ox that he was a poor swimmer so he could get a ride over the river. However when they came close to the riverbank the rat pushed the cat into the river leaving him to struggle. The rat then leapt off the ox to win the race. The rat felt very proud about how clever he was. All cats dislike rats up until this day because of what happened during the zodiac race.
Another animal in the race was the kind, helpful, considerate dragon. The dragon helped the rabbit by blowing him across the river. He also gave water to the people and animals who needed it. The dragon thought about others not just himself not like the devious rat.
We were born in the year of the rooster, boar and dog. However if we had a choice between being a rat or dragon we would choose dragon because it is better to be kind and helpful than selfish and sly.
